Free Sunday Chopin concerts continue in Warsaw's Royal Łazienki Park, celebrating 67 years of one of the city's best-loved summer musical traditions
For more than six decades, summer Sundays in Warsaw have been accompanied by the music of Fryderyk Chopin. This year, the tradition continues with the 67th Chopin Concert Season at Royal Łazienki Park, where audiences gather beneath the composer's iconic monument for free open-air piano recitals performed by acclaimed Polish and international musicians.
The 2026 season carries added significance as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the Fryderyk Chopin Monument, one of Warsaw's best-known landmarks and a lasting symbol of the composer's connection with the Polish capital.
A Century of the Chopin Monument
Designed by sculptor Wacław Szymanowski, the monument was originally intended to mark the centenary of Chopin's birth in 1910. Although permission for its construction was eventually granted, it was not unveiled until 14 November 1926, several years after Poland regained independence.
The monument was destroyed during the Second World War before being reconstructed and unveiled again in 1958. Today, it remains one of Warsaw's most recognisable cultural landmarks and the setting for one of Europe's longest-running open-air classical music series.
A Season Underway
The 67th season officially opened on 5 July with performances by Piotr Alexewicz, soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and Jakub Kuszlik. The opening programme also featured pianist Paweł Pieczka and a poetry reading by Krzysztof Gosztyła, creating a programme that celebrated both Chopin's music and Polish artistic heritage.
Throughout the summer, award-winning pianists from Poland and abroad continue the tradition of presenting Chopin's works in the unique surroundings of Royal Łazienki Park, where audiences listen from the lawns surrounding the monument.
